ISOMS Fall Education Program & Meeting

Save the Date! We are pleased to announce that the plans for our Fall Education Program are moving swiftly. We will gather on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in the Conference Center, a short walk across the pond from the Hyatt Lodge Hotel, in Oak Brook. Program details will be mailed and posted on our website as soon as they are complete. Members will have the opportunity to earn 6 hours of CE credits applicable towards renewal of their anesthesia permits.

ACLS/BLS Training, Certification or Recertification Program

Save the Date! Our spring biennial ACLS/BLS Training, Certification or Recertification program will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook. Members and/or their staff may attend. A business meeting will be held during lunch from noon to 1 PM.

Members attending the ACLS course for ACLS recertification (including BLS for those who register for it) please comply with the trainers (ACES, Inc.) pre-testing requirement. The AHA.org American Heart Association has a pre-test on their website which you can take. Then, print out the results and bring the score sheet with you. Thank you! Breakfast will be ready for you at the Hyatt Lodge Hotel at 7:30 AM on the 12th.

ISOMS Annual Meeting & Elections of Officers

The ISOMS Education Program and Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, November 6th, at the Chicago Hilton/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center. We are pleased to have five speakers for the day. Topics will include Covid Vaccines, Bacterial Resistance in Oral Cavities, Deep Head and Neck Infections, and more! The program will begin at 8 AM and end by 3 PM. The Business portion will be conducted during lunch.

Registration may be limited to maintain comfortable distancing for attendees, due to Covid. Face masks will be encouraged for everyone. Please watch for more details next week, including registration forms. They will be emailed along with speaker details and the program for the day. Do we have your preferred email address?

Note: This hotel is a new meeting location for ISOMS and not the same hotel where recent ISOMS Annual Meetings have been held. This event will be held at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center.

Up to five hours of CE can be earned for attendees.

The ISOMS Executive Council will meet in the same location on Friday, November 5, beginning at 6:30 PM.

Tumor Board Discussion

Oral Cancer Committee:

Join us for an hour-long Zoom lecture with a tumor board style discussion of oral cancer cases. Become familiar with how these cancer cases are worked up and prepared for surgery. Presentation will be provided by members of the oral cancer committee.

Management of the Cleft & Craniofacial Patient

Stavan Patel DDS, MD, is the Residency Program Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/ Head and Neck Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport.

He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Cornell University. After his time at Cornell, he attended Dental School at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City.

Dr. Patel obtained his Medical Degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He completed a General Surgery Internship and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. After residency, Dr. Patel expanded his scope of practice by completing Fellowships in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery, Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery, and Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery. His clinical practice and research interests include reconstructive craniomaxillofacial / head and neck surgery, oncologic surgery, cleft surgery, and dentoalveolar surgery.

He frequently travels internationally for humanitarian outreach to deliver care to patients with clefts or pathological conditions. When not spending time with his work family, he loves woodworking, looking after his garden, and traveling with his wife Purna and son, Ian.
